Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been formally diagnosed with schizophrenia according to standard psychiatric guidelines (DSM-5)
• People whose schizophrenia has not responded well enough to at least two different antipsychotic medications (not counting clozapine)
• People who still have symptoms, but whose symptoms have been stable (no major ups and downs) for at least 3 months, and whose medication doses have stayed the same and will remain unchanged during the 8-week trial
• People whose schizophrenia symptom score, as measured by a standard rating tool (PANSS), is above 70 — indicating a meaningful level of symptoms
• People whose depression score, as measured by a standard tool (HAMD-17), is below 7 — indicating little to no significant depression
• People who are in generally good physical health, with blood tests and other lab results showing no significant concerns
• People who have enough education to communicate clearly and complete the study assessments
• People who agree to take part and have signed an informed consent form

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have a DSM-5 diagnosis of intellectual disability or a problem with substance use, including alcohol
• People who have a history of epilepsy, significant head injury, nervous system diseases, or mental health conditions other than schizophrenia — such as major depression, bipolar disorder, persistent depressive disorder, or obsessive-compulsive disorder
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People who would be unable to follow the study procedures as required
