Who might be able to join this trial:
- Women who have been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) using a specific set of recognised diagnostic guidelines (Rotterdam 2003 or National Institute of Health criteria).
- Women between the ages of 18 and 40.
- Women who have been unable to conceive, whether they have never been pregnant before or have had a previous pregnancy.
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a history of diabetes (either Type 1 or Type 2).
- People with liver or kidney problems, inflammatory conditions, autoimmune diseases, cancer, a heart or cardiovascular event in the past three months, or an uncontrolled hormonal or metabolic condition.
- People who have recently used certain medications, including hormonal drugs, cholesterol-lowering medications (such as statins), weight loss drugs, or medications known to affect blood sugar levels (such as acne treatments like isotretinoin, hormonal contraceptives, steroids, or anabolic steroids), unless these were stopped at least 8 weeks ago; or certain hair-growth-reducing medications, unless stopped at least 4 weeks ago.
- People who have conditions or take medications (such as certain water tablets/diuretics) that may put them at risk of becoming dehydrated or losing too much fluid.
- People who have had a severe allergic reaction (such as anaphylaxis, severe swelling, or serious skin reactions) to dapagliflozin or similar medications in the same drug class (SGLT2 inhibitors).
- People currently using certain blood sugar or diabetes-related medications, including Metformin, Thiazolidinediones, GLP-1 receptor agonists, DPP-4 inhibitors, or SGLT2 inhibitors (confirm with trial site if unsure whether a current medication falls into these categories).
- People with eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia, or significant digestive/gastrointestinal conditions.
- People who have previously had weight-loss (bariatric) surgery.
