Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the study
- People aged between 18 and 75 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with a specific type of oesophageal (food pipe) cancer called squamous cell carcinoma, confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy)
- People whose cancer is at a stage between II and IVA, based on a standard cancer staging system (the AJCC 8th edition)
- People who are generally well enough to carry out daily activities with little to no limitation (this is measured on a standard scale called ECOG PS 0-1)
- People whose cancer has not spread to distant parts of the body, and whose cancer a specialist has assessed as able to be removed by surgery
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a serious heart or blood vessel condition
- People currently receiving treatment for the hepatitis B virus (HBV) or on anti-viral therapy
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have had another type of cancer within the last 5 years
- People who have an active autoimmune disease, a history of autoimmune disease, or a condition that affects the immune system
- People who show signs that their cancer has spread to distant parts of the body
