Who might be able to join this trial:
For healthy volunteers:
- You are a healthy adult (male or female) with no diagnosed medical conditions
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have normal thinking and memory abilities
- You are able to understand what the study involves
- You are willing to complete all parts of the study
- You are not regularly taking any medications or receiving ongoing treatments
- You are able to give written agreement to take part
For patients:
- You are a patient at the Neurocentro della Svizzera Italiana who has been diagnosed with a muscle disease (myopathy) or nerve disease (neuropathy) that already requires a standard needle nerve/muscle test (needle-EMG) as part of your care
- You are a male or female aged 18 or older
- You have normal thinking and memory abilities
- You are able to understand what the study involves
- You are willing to complete all parts of the study
- You are not taking medications that could affect the study measurements, such as muscle relaxants (e.g. baclofen), statins, or benzodiazepines (confirm with trial site)
- You are able to give written agreement to take part
Who may not be able to join:
For healthy volunteers:
- You have any skin sores, wounds, or irritation in the area where the electrode would be placed
- You have an allergy to metal alloys
- You have a history of any skin condition or disease
- You are currently pregnant
- You are currently breastfeeding
- You have a known muscle or nerve disease
- You are unable to follow the study procedures
For patients:
- You have any skin sores, wounds, or irritation in the area where the electrode would be placed
- You have an allergy to metal alloys
- You have a history of any skin condition or disease
- You have a cognitive (thinking/memory) or psychiatric (mental health) disorder
- You are currently pregnant
- You are currently breastfeeding
- You have a muscle or nerve disease other than myopathy or neuropathy
- You are unable to follow the study procedures
