Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who have been diagnosed with an acute ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel)
- People (or their representative) who are able to provide written consent to participate
- People in whom a blood clot in a specific part of the heart (the left atrium or left atrial appendage) has been found on a CT scan taken during their initial stroke assessment
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose condition has been diagnosed as something other than an acute ischemic stroke, such as a mini-stroke (TIA), a bleeding stroke, a brain bleed around the brain's surface, epilepsy, or a brain tumour
- People for whom a specialised heart ultrasound procedure performed through the throat (called a TEE) would not be safe, including those with a perforated bowel, a narrowed oesophagus (food pipe), a tumour in the oesophagus, a tear or hole in the oesophagus, a pouch in the oesophagus, or active bleeding in the upper digestive tract
- People for whom a repeat CT scan of the heart would not be safe, including those who have previously had a severe allergic reaction (such as anaphylaxis, severe swelling, or breathing difficulty) to the dye used in CT scans
- People with severely reduced kidney function, defined as a kidney filtration rate below 30 mL/min/1.73 m² (confirm with trial site)
