Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are able to understand and agree to participate in the study by giving informed consent
- People who have active perianal Crohn's disease, meaning Crohn's disease that is currently causing tunnels (fistulas) or pockets of infection (abscesses) around the anal area
- People for whom a doctor has decided that surgery is needed to treat their perianal disease
- People between 18 and 75 years of age
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to give informed consent
- People who have previously had their rectum surgically removed (proctectomy)
- People who do not have a confirmed diagnosis of Crohn's disease
- People whose perianal fistula disease is caused by something other than Crohn's disease
- People who have a fistula between the rectum and vagina (rectovaginal fistula)
- People who have or have had cancer
- People with serious heart or lung disease
- People with neurological conditions or cognitive difficulties that affect thinking and understanding
- People with significant physical disabilities
- People with serious liver disease or kidney failure
- People who are currently, or have within the last three months, been taking part in another research study
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People for whom an MRI scan is not safe, for example those with a pacemaker
- People under 18 or over 75 years old
