Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 75 years, of any gender
- People who are having their first-ever minor stroke caused by a blockage in a large blood vessel, or a transient ischemic attack (TIA — sometimes called a "mini-stroke")
- People who received anti-clotting medication (antiplatelet treatment) within the first 24 hours of their stroke symptoms starting
- People who are not eligible for the clot-dissolving drug rt-PA (also known as thrombolysis)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who were not able to be followed up for 90 days after joining the trial
- People whose stroke symptoms were very mild (below a certain severity score) or whose symptoms went away quickly before brain imaging was completed
- People with a known ongoing or recurring brain or nervous system condition, such as epilepsy, meningioma, multiple sclerosis, or a previous head injury that left lasting neurological effects
- People who had a seizure at the time their stroke began
- People with signs of major organ failure, active cancer, or a heart attack within the previous six weeks
- People who were taking warfarin, ticagrelor regularly in the week before admission, or chemotherapy within the previous year
- People with an active stomach ulcer, recent bowel surgery, any bleeding episode within the last year, or major surgery within the last three months
- People with a known allergy to the medications being studied in this trial
- People whose blood test results on admission fall outside certain ranges — including blood clotting levels (INR or PT), blood sugar levels, or platelet counts — (confirm with trial site for specific thresholds)
- People whose blood pressure on admission is either too low or too high (confirm with trial site for specific thresholds)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whose stroke was caused by a blood clot in a vein (venous thrombosis), or occurred after a cardiac arrest or a severe drop in blood pressure
- People who have any other contraindications to the study medications
