Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are currently receiving a type of life support called VV-ECMO (a machine that helps the lungs by pumping and oxygenating blood outside the body)
- People between 18 and 75 years of age
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant
- People who have a condition that prevents their legs from being raised while lying flat — for example, an open abdominal wound, suspected or confirmed raised pressure in the skull, or a recent leg or spinal injury or bone/joint condition that makes leg raising unsafe
- People who have had a stroke (either caused by a blocked blood vessel or bleeding in the brain) within the 3 months before joining the study
- People showing signs of raised pressure in the skull, which may include unequal or diverging pupils (unless already assessed by brain scan, a nerve specialist, or eye specialist), or certain findings on a routine CT scan such as compressed brain structures or a shift of brain tissue of more than 5mm (confirm with trial site)
