Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have liver cancer (called HCC) and also have high-risk enlarged veins in the esophagus (the tube connecting the throat to the stomach), confirmed by imaging and clinical information, classified as a moderate or severe level using a standard medical grading system (F2 or F3 according to Beppu et al. classification)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People younger than 20 years old or older than 90 years old
  • People who have previously had bleeding from enlarged veins in the esophagus
  • People who have already received treatment for enlarged esophageal veins, such as banding, injection therapy, a procedure to redirect blood flow through the liver (TIPS), or surgery
  • People who have taken a type of blood pressure/heart medication called non-selective beta-blockers in the two weeks before joining the trial
  • People who have medical conditions that make non-selective beta-blockers unsafe for them, including certain heart rhythm problems, chronic lung disease (COPD), asthma, poorly controlled diabetes, or severe circulation problems in the legs or arms
  • People who have other serious end-stage illnesses, such as advanced cancers other than liver cancer, heart failure, or kidney failure
  • People who are pregnant
