Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are over 18 years old
- Twin pairs (either identical or non-identical twins) where both twins are willing to take part and able to give their consent to join the study
- Twin pairs where at least one twin has been diagnosed with ALS (a disease affecting the nerves that control movement) or FTD (a type of dementia affecting behaviour and language), based on specific medical diagnostic criteria
- People who are able and willing to follow all the study procedures as described in the protocol
- People who are able to understand the study and give their own informed consent at the first screening visit, before any study procedures begin
Who may not be able to join:
- Twin pairs where either twin is unwilling to complete the required assessments, at minimum at the first baseline visit
- Twin pairs where either twin is unwilling to donate biological samples collected from the body (such as blood), noting that spinal fluid collection via lumbar puncture is not required
- Women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
