Who might be able to join this trial:

Spinal cord injury group:

• Adults between 18 and 75 years old who have had a spinal cord injury at the neck level (between the C3 and C8 vertebrae)
• People who are at least 1 year past their injury date
• People taking muscle relaxant or anti-spasm medications must have been on a stable dose for at least 4 weeks before screening

Stroke group:

• Adults between 18 and 75 years old who have had any type of stroke that affected movement in their arm(s), with some movement still remaining
• People who are at least 6 months past their stroke
• People who have had Botox-type injections for muscle stiffness must be at least 4 months past their last injection, or within 2 months of finishing the study (confirm with trial site)
• People taking muscle relaxant or anti-spasm medications must have been on a stable dose for at least 4 weeks before screening

Who may not be able to join:

• Women who are pregnant
• People who have difficulty speaking or understanding language
• People with severe muscle stiffness, rated 3 or higher on a standard medical scale called the Modified Ashworth Scale
• People who have an implanted medical device, such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, deep brain stimulator, vagus nerve stimulator, eye implant, or medication pump
• People who have any conductive, magnetic, or metal implants in their head
• People with a personal history of seizures or epilepsy
• People taking any medication that is known to lower the threshold for seizures
