Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 18 or older (any gender) with a confirmed diagnosis of ulcerative colitis (Group 1), OR males aged 30 or older and females aged 40 or older with a confirmed diagnosis of ulcerative colitis (Group 2)
  • People whose disease is currently active, as confirmed by a camera examination of the bowel (with a score of 2 or higher on a standard medical scale)
  • People for whom a doctor has determined that treatment with a medication called filgotinib is appropriate
  • People whose active disease is also confirmed by a bowel ultrasound scan showing thickening in at least one bowel area plus at least one other abnormal finding, OR people who have elevated levels of certain inflammation markers in their blood (CRP above 5 mg/L) and/or stool (calprotectin above 250 mg/kg)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are currently pregnant
  • People who are not able to give their own informed consent to participate in the trial
  • People who have colorectal cancer or a serious type of pre-cancerous cell change in the bowel called high-grade dysplasia
