Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who have been admitted with a diagnosis of ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel) or a transient ischemic attack (TIA, sometimes called a "mini-stroke")
- People with a history of TIA but no prior stroke may also be considered
- Stroke patients whose neurological condition has been stable, or has not significantly worsened, for at least 24 hours before joining
- People who are able to sit upright, lie flat on their back, and lie on their left or right side — either on their own or with minimal help from one person
- Stroke patients whose hospital stay is expected to be 2 days or longer; TIA patients, whose stays are typically shorter than 2 days, may also be enrolled
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a recent broken bone or known joint dislocation, or a history of fragile bone fractures (due to bone loss or cancer) affecting the chest, hip, pelvis, tailbone, or spine
- People with a confirmed prior history of bleeding in the brain (ICH) or a previously diagnosed ischemic stroke — though people whose scans show signs of an old stroke but who were never diagnosed with or affected by a stroke may still be considered, based on the doctor's judgement
- People currently wearing a spinal support brace, such as a neck collar
- People for whom brain surgery (such as skull decompression or blood clot removal) is planned during the hospital stay
- People who are currently on a breathing tube inserted through the throat (though people who have had this tube removed may be assessed for eligibility)
- People with a history of spinal cord injury that has left lasting muscle, movement, or sensation problems
- People who have experienced a physical trauma in the past 30 days
- People with a known injury or abnormality affecting ligaments, tendons, muscles, or bones
- People with a health condition that would interfere with movement or physical examination, such as chronic pain
- People who have had spinal surgery in the past
