Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are at least 18 years old and are mentally competent to participate
- People who have been newly diagnosed with ovarian cancer and are scheduled for primary surgery to remove as much of the cancer as possible, or people with ovarian cancer scheduled for a planned surgery after initial treatment
- People without ovarian cancer who are having surgery for a non-cancerous gynaecological condition under general anaesthetic (as a comparison group)

- People who are not mentally competent to participate

- People who have a known inflammatory or infectious disease, or a weakened immune system
- People taking medications that affect how the immune system works
- People with serious other health conditions, including another active cancer (other than certain minor skin cancers or early-stage cancers that have not spread)
- People with serious psychiatric conditions
- People who report drinking more than 21 units of alcohol per week
