Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have normal vision and hearing, or who use glasses or hearing aids to correct these
- People who have had their first-ever stroke affecting one side of the brain (not the lower/back part of the brain), between 1 and 24 weeks before joining the trial
- People who have some ability to move their arm and fingers separately, based on a specific stroke assessment scoring between 3 and 6 on the arm and hand sections
- People who are able to follow simple instructions
- People who have no professional piano training or experience (this applies only to participants placed in the piano group)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a loss of vision in part of their visual field, difficulty paying attention to one side of their environment (sometimes called neglect), dementia, or significant thinking and memory difficulties (as measured by a standard cognitive test, with a score below 18 out of 30)
