  • People for whom statin medications are not medically appropriate — for example, those with active liver disease, significantly elevated liver enzyme levels, muscle disorders, an allergy or sensitivity to statins, or who take other medications that cannot be safely combined with statins
  • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study period
  • People whom the trial investigators consider unsuitable for participating in a study lasting more than four years, for any reason
