For people with COPD:

Who may not be able to join:

For people with COPD:

  • People who have a history of cancer, lung surgery, pneumonia, active tuberculosis, or severe bronchiectasis
  • People who have a muscle-related condition such as myasthenia gravis, or a condition that causes significant muscle loss, such as severe overactive thyroid or advanced cancer
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People who have had significant radiation exposure (above 10 millisieverts) in the 12 months before joining the study

For people in the "normal" comparison group:

  • People who have had any past or current heart or lung disease, an abnormal lung physical exam or lung scan, or any infectious illness within the past month
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People who have had significant radiation exposure (above 10 millisieverts) in the 12 months before joining the study
