Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between 30 and 80 years old
- People who have had a stroke within the last 6 months, and who have muscle stiffness (spasticity) and weakness on one side of the lower body as a result
- People who have been referred by a doctor for rehabilitation related to their stroke
- People who are currently attending Ascension Rehabilitation of Joliet for their rehabilitation
- People who can read or understand spoken English or Spanish
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have little or no feeling in the areas of the body where cupping would be applied
- People with significant memory or thinking difficulties
- People who are pregnant
- People who take prescription blood-thinning medications
- People who have a disorder that affects how their blood clots
- People whose high blood pressure is not well controlled
- People whose diabetes is not well controlled
- People who have open wounds in the areas where cupping would be applied
- People who currently have a blood clot in a deep vein (such as in the leg)
- People who have bruising or a collection of blood under the skin in the areas where cupping would be applied
- People who have a bone fracture in the areas where cupping would be applied
- People who have active cancer in the areas where cupping would be applied
- People who are currently taking Baclofen
- People who are currently receiving Botox injections
- People who are currently taking any other medication used to treat muscle stiffness or spasticity
