Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis
- You have a narrowing of the bile duct (called a biliary stricture) that is causing symptoms such as a bile duct infection, or raised levels of certain liver-related substances in your blood for more than 4 weeks — either with no prior treatment or after having had one plastic stent placed previously
- Your bile duct narrowing has been confirmed by a medical scan or imaging test
Who may not be able to join:
- You have previously had a plastic stent in place for more than six months, or you have ever had a metal stent placed in your bile duct
- Stones in the main duct of your pancreas (in a specific area called the head of the pancreas) were not fully cleared during a previous procedure called ERCP
- Your bile duct narrowing is caused by something other than chronic pancreatitis (but is still non-cancerous)
- Your bile duct symptoms are being caused by a current episode of sudden (acute) pancreatitis
- Your bile duct narrowing is located very close (within 2 cm) to where the bile duct splits into two branches
- Your bile duct narrowing is caused by cancer
- You have conditions such as active or chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, a condition called primary sclerosing cholangitis, a birth defect affecting the bile ducts, or an abnormal connection involving the bile duct (biliary fistula)
- You have a narrowing of part of your small intestine (the duodenum) that is causing your stomach to empty too slowly
- You have a condition that means endoscopic (camera-based) procedures cannot safely be performed on you
- You are pregnant or currently incarcerated
- Your life expectancy is estimated to be less than 1 year
- You have other health conditions that make participation in the study inappropriate (confirm with trial site)
