Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with asthma for at least 6 months.
  • People who currently use a reliever (rescue) inhaler, such as salbutamol or a similar medication, with or without regular asthma preventer medication.
  • Female participants who are not currently pregnant, not breastfeeding, not trying to become pregnant (for at least 30 days before the screening visit and throughout the trial), or who are not able to become pregnant.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have had a severe, life-threatening asthma episode in the past, such as one that required a breathing tube, caused a seizure due to low oxygen, caused breathing to stop, or led to a loss of consciousness.
  • People who have had a respiratory infection (such as a cold, chest infection, or COVID-19) recently — specifically within the past 2 weeks for general infections, or within the past 6 weeks for COVID-19 — or whose infection symptoms have not fully cleared.
  • People who currently smoke or have a significant history of smoking (10 pack years or more). This includes cigarettes, vaping or e-cigarettes, hookahs, water pipes, marijuana, or any oral tobacco products used in the past 6 months. People with a positive cotinine test (a urine test that detects tobacco use) would also not be eligible.
  • People who have another lung condition alongside asthma, such as COPD, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis requiring treatment, or a combined asthma-COPD diagnosis.
