Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who have had a stroke affecting one side of the brain
- People whose affected shoulder cannot rotate outward fully, with movement restricted by more than 20 degrees
- People who have a spasticity (stiffness/tightness) score of 1 or higher on a standard medical scale called the Modified Ashworth Scale, measured at the shoulder
- People who are in a stable physical condition with steady vital signs (such as heart rate and blood pressure)
- People who are fully conscious and able to understand and follow instructions
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had two or more strokes, a traumatic brain injury, a brain tumour, or other brain-related conditions
- People who have another condition affecting the brain or spinal cord (such as Parkinson's disease or a spinal cord injury), or a separate muscle or joint condition that could affect how muscle stiffness is measured
- People for whom shock wave therapy is considered unsuitable — for example, those with certain cancers, blood clotting disorders, a local infection in the treatment area, or a pacemaker
- People who have received shock wave therapy or botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) injections for stroke-related spasticity within the past three months
- People whose ability to take part in treatment sessions or assessments is limited by cognitive difficulties, reduced consciousness, or communication or language problems
