Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 80 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with locally advanced, inoperable esophageal squamous cell cancer (a type of throat/food pipe cancer) and have already completed a full course of treatment aimed at curing the cancer (such as chemotherapy combined with radiation)
- This includes people whose cancer is in a specific location or has spread to nearby lymph nodes, those for whom surgery was not successful or was refused, those whose cancer did not respond to pre-surgery treatment, or those whose cancer has come back in the same area after surgery and cannot be removed
- People who showed no signs of the cancer returning or spreading when checked 2 to 3 weeks after completing their full course of treatment
- People who are able to provide a fresh tissue sample from the tumor at the start of the trial
- People whose heart, liver, kidneys, and other major organs are functioning normally
- People who are in generally good physical condition, able to carry out everyday activities with little or no limitation (confirmed by a standard health score of 1 or less)
- People who are able to have children and agree to use contraception during the trial
- People who are willing to take part and have signed a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously developed a fistula (an abnormal tunnel or opening in the body) caused by their cancer
- People considered to be at high risk of serious bleeding in the digestive tract, or of developing a hole or abnormal opening in the food pipe
- People who are in poor nutritional health
- People who experienced serious immune-related side effects (such as severe lung inflammation or heart inflammation) during their previous cancer treatment
- People who have signs or symptoms of interstitial disease (a group of conditions that affect the tissue and space around the organs, particularly the lungs — confirm with trial site)
- People who have severe or uncontrolled health conditions of any kind
- People who have another active cancer at the same time
- People who have other autoimmune diseases (conditions where the immune system attacks the body), or who have been taking immune-suppressing medications or steroids for a long period of time
- People who have difficulty communicating or who would be unable to attend regular long-term follow-up appointments
- People the trial investigators consider unsuitable for other reasons
