Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 50 years or older who have knee pain related to activity, and either no morning knee stiffness or morning knee stiffness that lasts 30 minutes or less
- People with a BMI under 40
- People who have had knee pain on most days for 3 months or longer
- People whose average knee pain has been rated 4 or higher (on a scale of 0–10) over the past 7 days, measured on at least two occasions at least 2 weeks apart
- People who are able to attend sessions remotely (for example, via video call)
- People who can speak and understand English well enough to follow the study procedures and give informed consent
- People who are available for the full duration of the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People for whom exercise is medically not recommended
- People who have pain in their lower back or legs that is worse than their knee pain
- People who have received physiotherapy for knee osteoarthritis in the past 6 months, or who are currently receiving it
- People who have taken part in a mindfulness-based program such as Tai Chi or meditation in the past 6 months, or who are currently doing so
- People currently receiving chemotherapy or radiation therapy for cancer, except for non-melanoma skin cancer treatment
- People with a history of certain joint diseases affecting the knee, such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, knee joint infections, or knee tumours (confirm with trial site for the full list)
- People who have had knee surgery in the past 6 months
- People who have had a joint replacement in either hip or ankle
- People who have previously had a partial or total knee replacement, or a knee bone-reshaping surgery (osteotomy) in either knee
- People who have a major knee treatment planned during the study, such as surgery, injections, or physiotherapy
- People who have major surgery planned in the next 6 months
- People who have had corticosteroid or hyaluronic acid injections in either knee within the past 3 months
- People with a neurological condition that affects movement, such as stroke, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, or diabetic nerve damage
- People who are pregnant
- People currently taking part in another clinical trial for any joint or muscle pain
- People with known or suspected drug or alcohol misuse
