Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had a previous ACL (knee ligament) reconstruction surgery using tissue from their own body or a donor, and who now have a form of arthritis in that knee as a result
- People who had their ACL reconstruction surgery at least one year ago
- People between the ages of 18 and 55
- People whose main source of pain is coming from the knee
- People who have been diagnosed with post-traumatic osteoarthritis (a type of arthritis that develops after a joint injury) confirmed by a doctor using imaging such as an X-ray
- People who score 85 or lower on at least 2 out of 4 areas (pain, symptoms, daily activities, or quality of life) on a standard knee health questionnaire called the KOOS
- People who do not have mechanical symptoms that would prevent them from completing the study activities (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have received any injections into the knee joint within the past 3 months
- Women who are currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the study period
- People who have a nerve condition (neuropathy) that affects their ability to feel pain
- People with a known heart condition that could be affected by shockwave therapy
- People with chronic conditions such as rheumatological diseases, immune system disorders, connective tissue disorders (for example, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), or active cancer that are known to affect inflammation or that require ongoing use of immune-modifying medicines taken by mouth or through a drip — note that asthma managed with inhalers only is not an exclusion
- People who are currently using oral steroids or anti-inflammatory medicines at the time of joining the trial
- People who have had ACL injuries or reconstruction surgery in both knees, or who have had revision (repeat) ACL surgery
- People whose cancer is not yet in remission, or who have been in remission for fewer than five years
- People who have previously received shockwave therapy (the treatment being studied in this trial) for knee osteoarthritis
- People who have a pacemaker, bone screws, or any other metal implants that would prevent them from having an MRI scan or receiving shockwave therapy
- People who do not speak English
