Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who had a stroke at least three months ago
  • People who are older than 18 years of age
  • People who have been prescribed either a semi-rigid or a custom-made hinged ankle-foot brace (AFO) by their doctor
  • People who wear their prescribed ankle-foot brace for all walking activity outside the home
  • People who are able to walk at least 20 meters without someone physically helping them
  • People who can walk at least 10 meters per minute during a short supervised walking test

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have a condition that could significantly affect their ability to walk, such as severe osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, heart failure, or a neurological condition other than stroke
  • People who have cognitive difficulties that would prevent them from being able to give informed consent to take part in the trial
  • People who have significant stiffness in the ankle joint where the foot is fixed in a downward-pointing position (confirm with trial site)
