Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are over 18 years of age
  • People whose vision is fully corrected to 10/10 in each eye
  • People who have signs of early or intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in at least one eye — this includes the presence of small or large deposits under the retina (called drusen) or changes in the pigment layer of the retina, in specific patterns known as soft drusen, hard drusen, cuticular drusen, or reticulated pseudo-drusen

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have an advanced form of AMD involving areas of retinal cell loss (called geographic atrophy), even in early stages, in either eye
  • People who have abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina (neovascularization), whether active or not, detectable on specialised eye scans, in either eye
  • People whose retinal signs suggest a different eye condition that could be confused with AMD — such as bestrophinopathies, familial drusen, or certain vitamin deficiency-related conditions — in either eye (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have eye movement disorders, such as uncontrolled eye movements (nystagmus) or paralysis of the eye muscles, in either eye, that could prevent accurate testing
  • People who have certain neurological or brain conditions that could affect their ability to complete the tests, such as advanced Parkinson's disease, Benson's disease, or Alzheimer's disease with movement and visual coordination difficulties
  • People who have other eye conditions that could affect the measurements taken, including glaucoma or other damage to the optic nerve, clouding of the eye's lens or other structures that reduces vision, or a significant prescription strength outside the range of -6.00D to +6.00D
  • People who have other medical conditions, such as tremors, that could prevent them from completing the examinations or imaging required
