Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have severe paralysis of both arms and legs (and limited or no movement in the hands, wrists, and arms) caused by a spinal cord injury or ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), lasting at least 1 year with no improvement
- People with a life expectancy of at least 12 months
- People who are able to communicate in English
- People who have a reliable caregiver who is consistently available to support them
Who may not be able to join:
- People considered to be at moderate to high risk of serious complications from surgery
- People who have active implanted medical devices (such as a pacemaker)
- People with severe obesity, defined as a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 40
- People with a history of seizures or epilepsy that has been difficult to control
- People with a history of diabetes that has been difficult to control
- People who need MRI scans as part of managing an ongoing medical condition
- People with a weakened immune system, whether from illness or a hereditary condition
- People who currently use cigarettes, tobacco, or other tobacco products
- People with a diagnosed psychiatric or psychological disorder
- People whose brain MRI shows bleeding, tumours, or unusual brain structure
- People with any other condition that the trial investigators determine would make participation unsafe (confirm with trial site)
