Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 80 years old
- People with a body mass index (BMI) below 40 (a measure of body weight relative to height)
- People who have knee osteoarthritis with symptoms and X-ray results showing a moderate level of joint damage (rated as grade 2 or 3 on a standard medical scale)
- People who have rated their knee pain higher than 4 out of 10 on average over the past 7 days
- People who are able to walk on their own or with the help of a walking cane
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
- People who regularly take blood-thinning medications (anticoagulants)
- People who have used pain relief medications (other than paracetamol/acetaminophen) within the 15 days before receiving the injection
- People with a history of substance abuse
- People who take any additional medications for knee symptoms during the study without reporting this to the research team
- People who have had a cortisone injection or joint fluid supplement injection into the affected knee within the past 3 months
- People who have had surgery on the affected knee within the past 12 months, or surgery on the opposite knee within the past 6 months
- People with a history of organ transplant or bone marrow/stem cell transplant
- People currently taking medications that suppress the immune system
- People who have been diagnosed with cancer in the past 5 years (except for a type of skin cancer called basal cell carcinoma that has already been treated)
