Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had an acute stroke or similar sudden brain blood vessel event within the past month.
- People whose condition has been medically stable for more than 72 hours, meaning no worsening of neurological symptoms, stable blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature, and no active complications such as infection, blood problems, or stomach bleeding (or any such complications are under control).
- People with a moderate to moderately severe level of physical disability (as rated by their medical team), who are considered to have good potential to benefit from rehabilitation — this includes having basic thinking and learning ability, a willingness to participate, enough physical strength to sit upright in a wheelchair or on a bed edge with support for at least one hour, and the ability to actively take part in a rehabilitation programme.
- People aged 20 years or older.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have atrial fibrillation or other irregular heart rhythms.
- People who have had a heart catheter procedure or a needle puncture in the groin artery within the past 2 weeks.
- People with severe heart failure (classified as NYHA class 3 or 4).
- People whose heart pumping function (left ventricular ejection fraction) is below 30%.
- People with moderate or severe leaking of the aortic heart valve (aortic regurgitation).
- People with persistently uncontrolled high blood pressure that remains above 160/100 mmHg.
- People with a tendency to bleed abnormally.
- People with active inflammation or disease of the veins in the lower legs.
- People with severe blockage of the blood vessels in the lower legs.
- People with a known aortic aneurysm or aortic dissection that requires surgery to repair.
- People who are pregnant.
