Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People whose leg artery symptoms fall within a specific range of severity, known as Rutherford Classification 2–5 (confirm with trial site for what this means for your situation)
- People who have a significant narrowing (more than 70%) or complete blockage of the main artery running along the thigh and behind the knee, with at least one healthy, open blood vessel pathway continuing below the knee and down to the ankle, confirmed by a specialised imaging test called a DSA
- People who understand the purpose of the study, are willing to take part voluntarily, sign a consent form, and are willing to attend follow-up appointments
- People whose blockage can be crossed with a medical guidewire during the procedure
- People with a life expectancy of more than 24 months
- People with moderately severe calcium build-up in the affected artery, confirmed by imaging
- People who need treatment in both legs may be enrolled, with each leg treated one at a time in order
- People who have already had a procedure to open a blockage in the aorta or iliac arteries (the large arteries in the abdomen and pelvis), where less than 50% narrowing remains after that procedure
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had a stroke, bleeding in the brain, bleeding in the digestive system, or a heart attack within the 3 months before joining the trial
- People with a known allergy to heparin, aspirin, other blood-thinning or antiplatelet medicines, or contrast dye used in imaging
- People who have taken part in another medication trial within the last 3 months, or who have had other specialised artery-preparation devices used during a procedure (such as plaque-removal devices or special balloons)
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are unable or unwilling to take part in the trial
- People diagnosed with Buerger's disease (a condition affecting blood vessels in the arms and legs)
- People who have already had an arterial bypass surgery on the leg being considered for treatment
