Who might be able to join this trial:

• Women who are not able to become pregnant, or men. (In the US only, women who are able to become pregnant may also be considered if they have been using a highly effective, non-hormonal, low user-dependency form of contraception for at least 2 months before screening and agree to continue using it throughout the study.)
• People aged 18 or older at the time of signing the consent form.
• People who were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at least 180 days before screening, or people who have not been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at all.
• People with a specific blood sugar level (HbA1c) within a defined range — between 6.5% and 10.5% for those with type 2 diabetes, or below 6.5% for those without type 2 diabetes.
• People with a body mass index (BMI) of 27.0 or higher at the time of screening.
• People with a certain level of reduced kidney function, based on specific blood test results measuring kidney filtering ability (confirm with trial site for exact values).
• People with a certain level of protein in their urine, measured by a specific urine test, within a defined range (confirm with trial site for exact values).
• People who are already taking a maximum or highest tolerated dose of a specific type of blood pressure medication (an ACE inhibitor or an ARB) — unless a doctor has determined that those medications are not suitable — with that dose being stable for at least 30 days before screening.

Who may not be able to join:

• Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning to become pregnant, or who are able to become pregnant and are not using a highly effective, non-hormonal, low user-dependency form of contraception.
• People with lupus nephritis or a specific immune-related blood vessel condition affecting the kidneys (ANCA-associated vasculitis).
• People who have received immune-suppressing medications for a kidney condition within the 6 months before screening.
• People who have used a type of diabetes medication known as a GLP-1 receptor agonist (such as medications that also have GLP-1 activity, like GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists) within 90 days before screening.
• People who have had a heart attack, stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), or been hospitalised for severe chest pain (unstable angina) within 180 days before screening.
• People who have been on kidney dialysis (haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) at any point in the 90 days before screening.
• People with type 2 diabetes who have uncontrolled or unstable damage to the back of the eye (diabetic retinopathy or maculopathy), as confirmed by an eye examination (confirm with trial site for exact requirements).
• People who have had certain cancers or pre-cancerous conditions within the past 5 years before screening (some exceptions may apply, such as certain low-risk skin cancers or low-risk prostate conditions — confirm with trial site).
