Who might be able to join this trial:
- People of any sex who have been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) using a standard set of medical guidelines called the revised El Escorial criteria
- People between 18 and 80 years old
- People whose lungs are working at more than 50% of the expected capacity for someone their age and size
- People whose breathing muscle strength (measured by a specific sniff test through the nose) is above a certain level (confirm with trial site if unsure what this means for you)

Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to understand or follow the study procedures
- People who do not wish to take part, or who decide at any point they want to leave the study

- People who are already using a breathing machine that works through a tube inserted into the airway (invasive mechanical ventilation)
- People who have had a surgical opening made in their throat to help with breathing (tracheostomy)
- People who have a pacemaker (a small device implanted in the chest to help the heart beat regularly)
- People who have any metal implants in the brain or other electronic implants in the body
- People who have a cochlear implant (a hearing device surgically placed in the ear)
- People who have epilepsy, a personal history of seizures, or a family history of epilepsy
- People who have had a stroke or a tumor at any point in their life
- People who are prone to sudden changes in blood pressure or heart rate, active infections, or inflammatory conditions
- Women who are pregnant at the time of joining the study
- People who are unlikely to be able to complete all parts of the study program
