Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) according to the Gold Coast Criteria (2020)
- People aged 18 or older, of any gender
- People whose ALS breathing-related symptoms score at least 1 point on a standard ALS rating scale (ALSFRS-R) across three breathing-related measures: shortness of breath, breathing while upright, and breathing problems generally
- People who have been taking a stable dose of riluzole tablets for at least 7 days before the study starts, and who are able to continue taking it until the final study visit
- People who are willing to take part, able to sign a consent form, and able to follow the study procedures
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are known to be allergic to the study drug or any of its ingredients
- People who have another illness or injury that would interfere with assessments or be life-threatening, or who have serious irreversible disease of the heart, lungs, liver, or brain, or who have multiple organ failure (note: people with a specific type of breathing failure — type I or type II respiratory failure — are also excluded; confirm details with trial site)
- People who have a significant mental health condition or problems with thinking and memory
- People who have had a moderate or major surgery within one month before the screening period
- People who have taken part in another clinical trial within the past month
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whose ability to follow the study requirements is considered a concern, or where the research team identifies any other reason that makes participation unsuitable (confirm with trial site)
