Who might be able to join this trial:
- Women aged 18 or older at the time of signing the consent form
- People who are able to sign a written consent form and a privacy authorization form
- People who have been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer through a tissue biopsy and have not yet started any treatment for it — specifically, either a type called HER2-positive (confirmed by specific lab tests) with any hormone receptor status, or a type called triple-negative breast cancer (HER2-negative and with very low or no estrogen/progesterone receptors)
- People whose tumor measures at least 2 cm (roughly ¾ of an inch) at its largest point, as measured by ultrasound, MRI, or mammogram — if there are multiple tumors, at least one must meet this size requirement
- People who are planned to receive chemotherapy before surgery (called neoadjuvant chemotherapy)
- People whose baseline study visit will occur at least two weeks after their breast biopsy
- People who have a breast lump that their treating doctor can feel by physical exam
Who may not be able to join:
- People with significant bruising or a blood collection (hematoma) at the biopsy site, as judged by their doctor — mild bruising may be acceptable (confirm with trial site)
- People diagnosed with a specific type called inflammatory breast cancer
- People who have previously had breast cancer that required surgery or radiation in either breast
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, due to the effect this has on breast tissue structure
- People with a BMI of 40 or higher, unless their tumor is located close to the skin surface (less than 3 cm away), based on imaging measurements
- People who have any tattoos on their breasts
