Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have had a specific type of MRI scan of the neck arteries (called a non-contrast carotid MRI) done as part of their routine stroke investigation

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose stroke affected the back part of the brain (posterior circulation), or who had strokes on both sides of the brain at the same time
  • People whose MRI scan of the neck arteries was done more than 10 days after their stroke symptoms first started
  • People who have previously had a stent placed in a neck artery, or who have had a surgical procedure to clear a neck artery (called a carotid endarterectomy)
  • People under 18 years of age
  • People with a life expectancy of less than one year
  • People who are unable to provide written consent to participate in the study
