Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have given written agreement to take part in the study
• People who are between 12 and 75 years of age
• People who have a confirmed asthma diagnosis from a doctor, and have needed at least a medium-strength inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) combined with a long-acting bronchodilator (LABA) for at least 12 months before the first study visit
• People who have been on that medium-strength ICS and LABA combination for at least 3 months before the first study visit, with or without other asthma controller medicines (not including oral steroids)
• People who weigh at least 35 kg (approximately 77 lbs)
• People whose lung function test (measuring how much air can be breathed out in one second) shows a result at or below 90% of what is expected for their age and size
• People who have had at least 2 asthma flare-ups in the 12 months before signing the consent form
• People whose asthma symptom score (measured by a standard questionnaire called the ACQ-6) is at a level of 1.5 or higher at required points during the study screening period
• People whose test results show the lung function variability that confirms asthma, as set out in the study requirements (confirm with trial site)
• People whose blood test shows a certain type of immune cell (eosinophils) at a count of 150 cells or more per microlitre of blood
• People who have taken their usual ICS-LABA inhaler as directed at least 70% of the time during the run-in period, based on a daily diary

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have a significant lung condition other than asthma, or who have ever been diagnosed with a lung or whole-body condition linked to raised eosinophil levels in the blood
• People who have had an asthma flare-up needing oral or injected steroids, or a respiratory infection needing antibiotics or antiviral medicines, within the 30 days before signing the consent form or during the screening period
• People who have any unstable health condition that the study doctor believes could interfere with the study
• People who have a significant ongoing infection that requires systemic (whole-body) treatment, as judged by the study doctor
• People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving an investigational product, or in a post-approval safety study
• People who have had a problem with alcohol or drug misuse in the 12 months before signing the consent form
• People who currently smoke, or former smokers who have a smoking history of 10 pack-years or more and have not stopped smoking for at least 6 months before the first study visit
