Who might be able to join this trial:
Group 1 – Generally Healthy People with Gum Disease:
- You are between 30 and 60 years old
- You are male or female
- You have been diagnosed with moderate to severe gum disease (called periodontitis stage II or III)
- You do not have any other health conditions
- You are not taking any long-term regular medications
Group 2 – Kidney Failure Patients with Gum Disease:
- You are between 30 and 60 years old
- You are male or female
- You have been diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure and are regularly receiving dialysis treatment
- You have been diagnosed with moderate to severe gum disease (called periodontitis stage II or III)
- You are Egyptian, unrelated to other participants, from a similar financial background, and living in the same general area (confirm with trial site)
- You have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
Who may not be able to join:
Group 1:
- You are a current smoker
- You have any ongoing health condition or take long-term regular medications
Group 2:
- You have had a kidney transplant
- You have any health condition other than diabetes
- You have a history of cancer
- You are a current smoker
