Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 45 and 80 years old
- People who meet at least three of the following six features of knee osteoarthritis (as assessed by a doctor): being over 50 years old, morning stiffness that lasts less than 30 minutes, a crackling or grinding sensation when the knee is moved, tenderness in the bony areas of the knee, bony enlargement around the knee, and no noticeable warmth around the knee joint
- People whose knee X-rays show a moderate level of joint damage, rated as grade 2 or 3 on a standard medical scale (Kellgren-Lawrence grading)
- People who are willing to receive prolotherapy (a type of injection-based treatment)
Who may not be able to join:
- People with serious ongoing health conditions such as cancer, poorly controlled diabetes, severe infection (sepsis), or significant heart or lung disease
- People who are currently taking blood-thinning medications, or who have had a knee injection within the past three months
- People who have previously had knee surgery, or who have been told they may need a knee replacement
- People with a history of drug abuse
- People who have previously had a bad reaction or intolerance to prolotherapy
- People who are pregnant
- People who have an active joint infection, an inflammatory joint disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis), or abnormal joint development
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 35 (confirm with trial site if unsure how this is calculated)
- People who are unable or unwilling to have an MRI scan of the knee
