Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 to 85 years old.
  • People who have had sudden symptoms of neurological problems, such as weakness, numbness, or difficulty speaking.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who had significant disability before their stroke, as measured by a standard disability scale (mRS score greater than 1).
  • People who have signs of a stroke affecting both sides of the brain, or both the front and back areas of the brain at the same time.
  • People who scored 6 or below on the stroke severity assessment (NIHSS).
  • People whose brain scans show a bleed in the brain or around it (cerebral or subarachnoid haemorrhage).
  • People with active bleeding, severe anaemia, blood clotting problems, or certain abnormal blood test results (including low haemoglobin, low platelet count, or abnormal clotting measures), or a history of a specific type of low platelet count related to blood-thinning medication.
  • People whose heart function is significantly reduced, or who have a known history of heart failure, and who the treating doctor believes are at higher risk of serious heart complications.
  • People with severe heart, liver, or kidney disease.
  • People with a serious illness such as advanced cancer where life expectancy is less than 3 months.
  • People who are already taking part in another clinical trial, whether in the active treatment or follow-up phase.
