Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who agree to take part and have signed a consent form
- People who have a cataract that significantly affects their vision and have been recommended for cataract surgery
- People who have been diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma, or a related type (such as pseudoexfoliative glaucoma or pigmentary glaucoma), and also need cataract surgery
- People whose eye drainage angle (the area where fluid drains from the eye) is open, as measured by a specific grading system (Shaffer grade 2–4)
- People with early to moderate glaucoma — those with more advanced glaucoma (a certain vision field test score worse than -12dB) would not be included
Who may not be able to join:
- People with serious ongoing health conditions affecting other parts of the body
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People under 18 years of age
- People who have other eye conditions besides cataracts, including severe dry eye
- People who have had previous eye surgery, an eye injury, or scarring in the area of the eye where the procedure would take place
- People whose vision has deteriorated to a level where only counting fingers is possible, or worse
- People with a closed eye drainage angle, angle-closure glaucoma, glaucoma caused by scar tissue in the eye, or glaucoma related to abnormal blood vessel growth in the eye
- People with normal-pressure glaucoma (a type of glaucoma where eye pressure remains in the normal range)
- People whose corneal thickness (the clear front surface of the eye) falls outside a specific range — below 490 micrometres or above 620 micrometres
- People with advanced glaucoma-related vision field loss beyond a specific threshold (-12dB or worse)
- People with eye pressure above 35 mmHg
- People with an autoimmune disorder, particularly conditions affecting connective tissue (such as lupus or similar conditions)
- People under a legal protective supervision order
- People who are not covered by a social security scheme
