Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 40 or older who have been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or people aged 18 or older who have been diagnosed with asthma or bronchiectasis.
- People whose main reason for being admitted to hospital was a flare-up of COPD, asthma that was difficult to control, or a flare-up of bronchiectasis.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to complete a breathing test (called spirometry) once their condition has settled.
- People whose doctors expect them to survive less than one month.
- People who choose not to sign the consent form agreeing to take part in the study.
- People whose chest scans show certain types of abnormal findings, such as patches, solid areas, glassy-looking changes, or changes in the lung tissue, with or without fluid around the lungs.
- People who have cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, or other lung conditions that cause certain types of airway widening.
