Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been clinically diagnosed with schizophrenia
- People who are right-handed
- People who have completed at least a primary school level of education
- People who are able to read, understand, and sign a written consent form (for anyone under 18 years old, a guardian must also sign alongside them)
- People who continue to hear voices (auditory hallucinations) despite having taken adequate antipsychotic medication for at least 6 months, having tried a combination of 3 different antipsychotic medications without success, and still scoring above 12 on a standard scale used to measure auditory hallucinations
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have received a type of brain stimulation treatment called MECT (electroconvulsive therapy) within the past 3 months
- People who have significant physical health conditions affecting the senses, movement, the nervous system, or who have had a brain injury
- People who have any medical reason that makes a brain stimulation treatment called rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) unsafe for them, such as having metal implants inside the skull
- People who have shown aggressive behaviour or a tendency to damage equipment
- People who have any metal inside their body, including orthodontic devices, dental implants, or tattoos containing metallic ink
- People who experience claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
