Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are already scheduled to have a standard upper endoscopy (a camera procedure to look at the throat and stomach), with or without a treatment procedure to remove abnormal tissue
- People who are willing to have a non-endoscopy tissue sample taken using the study device, either on the same day as their endoscopy or up to 6 weeks before it
- People who are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
- People who have a confirmed diagnosis of Barrett's Esophagus measuring at least 1 cm in length — this includes all types, from non-dysplastic (no abnormal cell changes) through to low-grade changes, high-grade changes, or early cancer
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose most recent endoscopy result was listed as "indefinite for dysplasia" (meaning the results were unclear about whether abnormal cell changes were present)
- People who have previously had a treatment procedure to remove or destroy abnormal tissue in the oesophagus
- People who currently have difficulty swallowing, specifically those unable to swallow a capsule approximately 8.5 mm in diameter (roughly the size of a large vitamin pill)
- People who are known or suspected to have enlarged veins in the stomach or oesophagus (varices)
- People who are known or suspected to have a condition called portal hypertension (high blood pressure in the vein supplying the liver)
- People taking blood-thinning or clot-preventing medications that cannot be stopped for the procedure
- People taking a type of medication called GLP-1 agonists (sometimes used for diabetes or weight management) that cannot be paused for at least one week before the procedure
- People who have previously had surgery on the stomach or oesophagus, including a type of reflux surgery called Nissen fundoplication
- People with a history of a tumour in the mouth or throat area
- People who have had a heart attack or stroke within the past 6 months
- People who are known or suspected to be pregnant
