Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have finished your main treatments (such as surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation) for breast or ovarian cancer.
- You have been tested and confirmed to carry a BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation that is known to be harmful.
- You have a significant level of fear about your cancer coming back, as measured by a score of 13 or higher on a specific questionnaire called the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory.
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You are able to read, understand, and communicate in French.
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer has spread to distant parts of your body (for ovarian cancer, this applies specifically to stage IIIC or stage IV).
- Your BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic test result came back as a "variant of uncertain significance" (VUS), meaning the result was not clearly harmful (confirm with trial site).
- You have a known condition that affects memory, thinking, or understanding.
- You have a known serious mental health condition, such as a psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, or a substance use disorder.
- You have already taken part in the original fear of cancer recurrence group therapy program at the CHU de Québec.
- You are currently taking psychiatric or mood-related medications, but your dose has not been stable for at least one month (if your dose has been stable for one month or more, you may still be eligible).
