Who might be able to join this trial:

For parent-child pairs:

• The caregiver (parent or legal guardian) must be at least 18 years old
• The child must have a diagnosis of asthma recorded in their clinic health records
• The child must be between 4 and 17 years old at the time of joining the study
• The child must be prescribed a daily inhaled steroid medication, or a combination inhaled steroid and long-acting reliever medication (including when the same inhaler is used for both daily prevention and rescue relief)
• The child must have persistent or poorly controlled asthma, meaning at least one of the following applies: asthma symptoms on more than 2 days per week in the past month; use of rescue medication more than 2 days per week; nighttime wake-ups due to asthma more than 2 times per month; or more than 2 asthma episodes in the past year that required steroid treatment by mouth or injection
• The child must be a patient at one of these specific clinics at LCH: Primary Care Uptown, Primary Care Deming, Allergy, or Pulmonary Clinics

For healthcare providers (staff-related part of the study):

• The person must be an employee of the LCH health system
• The person must work at or support one of the four listed clinics at LCH
• The person must be able to give informed consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

For parent-child pairs:

• The caregiver has a smartphone that is not compatible with the Hailie® app
• The child's prescribed inhaler is not compatible with the Hailie electronic sensor attachment
• The caregiver is not able to speak and understand English
• The child has another serious health condition, such as cystic fibrosis, a heart condition present from birth affecting oxygen levels, or a lung condition called bronchopulmonary dysplasia, that could affect how asthma is measured in the study
• The family currently has active involvement with the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS)
• The child is already taking part in another asthma intervention study at the same time
• The child, or a sibling living in the same home, was previously enrolled in this study
• The caregiver does not provide consent to participate
• The caregiver does not pass a basic understanding check about the study at the time of joining

For healthcare providers:

• The person has left LCH employment and is no longer an active employee at the time they would be assessed
