Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • You must be showing signs or symptoms of a sudden, severe stroke caused by a large blocked blood vessel in the brain.
  • Your stroke must be rated as moderately severe or worse on a standard stroke scale (a score of 10 or higher out of 42).
  • The time from when you were last seen feeling well (or "last known well") to when you arrive at the stroke treatment center must be within 7 hours.
  • If you are being transferred from another hospital, the time between your first brain scan at that hospital and your arrival at the stroke treatment center must be more than 90 minutes.
  • If you are in the standard care group: a brain scan (CTA or MRA) must show a large blocked blood vessel, OR you have a large area of brain already affected by the stroke (confirm with trial site).
  • If you are in the direct transport group: you may still be eligible even if no large blocked vessel is found once you arrive at the treatment center (confirm with trial site).

Who may not be able to join:

  • You arrived at the stroke treatment center more than 7 hours after you were last known to be well.
  • You were transferred from another hospital and the time between your brain scan there and your arrival at the stroke center was 90 minutes or less.
  • Your brain scan shows bleeding in the brain (a hemorrhagic stroke) that means a clot-removal procedure would not be safe for you.

This study is not part of the standard drug-approval phase pathway (for example an observational, device, behavioural, or registry study), so a phase success rate does not apply.
