Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are willing to sign a consent form showing they understand the trial's purpose, process, and possible side effects before it begins
- People aged between 18 and 75 years old (any gender)
- People who have had a formal asthma diagnosis from a doctor for at least 12 months before the first trial visit
- People who have been prescribed high-dose inhaled corticosteroids (a type of asthma preventer medication) for at least 6 months before the first trial visit
- People who have been on a stable daily dose of their inhaled corticosteroid for at least 3 months before the first trial visit
- People who have been taking any other asthma control medications at a stable dose for at least 3 months before the first trial visit; for those also taking oral steroid tablets, the dose must be no more than 10mg of prednisone (or equivalent) per day, and must have been stable for at least 30 days before the first visit
- People who have had at least 2 asthma flare-ups in the 12 months before the first trial visit, with no major flare-up in the month before signing the consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a significant lung condition other than asthma
- People who have a pre-existing autoimmune disease (where the immune system attacks the body)
- People with a history of a weakened immune system or serious infections linked to immune problems
- People with any other medical condition that the trial doctor does not consider to be stable
- People with a history of most cancers, unless a curative treatment for certain limited skin cancers or cervical cancer in situ was completed at least 12 months before the first visit, or curative treatment for other cancers was completed at least 5 years before the first visit (confirm with trial site)
- People who currently smoke, or who have a smoking history of 10 or more pack-years; former smokers with less than 10 pack-years of smoking history who quit less than 6 months before the first visit may also not be eligible (confirm with trial site)
- People whom the trial doctor determines are not suitable to participate for any other reason
