Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with either an ischaemic (blocked blood vessel) or haemorrhagic (bleeding) stroke, and for whom this was their first stroke
- People whose stroke affected only one side of the body
- People whose stroke occurred at least six months ago, meaning they are in the longer-term recovery stage
- People whose affected arm and hand have a movement ability level rated between stages four and six on the Brunnstrom scale, meaning the affected arm is able to perform the upper-limb movement training used in this study (confirm with trial site)
- People whose affected arm has a Modified Ashworth Scale score of 2 or below, meaning there is no significant muscle stiffness or spasticity in that arm
- People who score 24 or higher on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a standard thinking and memory test, showing they can understand and follow instructions during the study
- People who, when their eyes are closed and a clap is made near the ear on their affected side, are able to indicate where the sound came from — either by speaking or using gestures — showing they have at least some hearing in that ear and can respond to rhythmic sound cues
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have other neurological conditions or health issues that affect movement in their arms or affect their hearing
- People who are currently taking part in another research study involving drug treatments or upper-limb movement therapy
