Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who have been diagnosed with ALS (also known as motor neurone disease) based on recognised international diagnostic guidelines
- People whose symptoms started less than 24 months ago
- People whose ALS functional rating score is above 30 at the time of joining (this is a standard scale doctors use to measure how ALS is affecting daily activities)
- People whose functional rating score has declined by more than 1 point over at least the 3 months before the treatment begins
- People with normal breathing function at the preliminary assessment, confirmed within the previous month (confirm with trial site for specific measurements)
- People currently taking riluzole 50mg twice daily
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are already participating in another clinical trial
- People who have had a tracheotomy (a surgical opening in the throat to help with breathing) or have a PEG feeding tube in place
- People who are unable to perform a breathing test (spirometry) due to severe difficulties with swallowing or speaking
- People with medical reasons that prevent them from being exposed to magnetic fields
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with a history of epilepsy or seizures
- People taking medications that affect the brain or nervous system, with the exception of antidepressants and benzodiazepines
- People with cognitive impairment (difficulties with memory or thinking)
- People who have not given informed consent to participate
