Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 65 years old
- You have been assessed by a doctor as being in generally good or only mildly affected health before surgery (this is called ASA level I or II — confirm with trial site if unsure)
- You are having surgery that requires continuous blood pressure monitoring through a small tube placed in an artery
- You are right-handed
- You have good blood circulation in your hand, confirmed by a simple squeeze test where your palm returns to its normal color within 10 seconds (confirm with trial site)
- You are willing to take part and are able to understand and sign a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a history of muscle, joint, blood vessel, nerve, or mental health conditions
- You have a history of diabetes or other long-term health conditions affecting the whole body
- You have taken any pain-relief medication in the month before or during the study
- You have a history of smoking, drinking alcohol heavily, or using addictive substances
- The area of skin being tested has any unusual sensations, scars, redness, injuries, or rashes
- The area being treated or where a needle will be placed overlaps with your surgical site
- You are currently on your period (for female participants)
